Captains Social Foundation leverages power of volunteering for their first retail fundraiser

Captains Social Foundation is enhancing the capacity, potential, and creativity of youth to address social issues and to create a sustainable impact in society. They hope to create a network of youth who can be changemakers and leaders in society, creating a better world for everyone. Their recent fundraiser was carried out to support this mission and to encourage more young people to become involved in volunteerism in India.

The organization primarily recruits volunteers through word-of-mouth publicity from current volunteers, by highlighting the meaningful and impactful experiences that are provided to the volunteers. This is the same strategy they used to leverage their fundraising campaign as well. Each volunteer shared stories on social media highlighting the impact of their volunteer work, and also personally took a sub-campaign within their friends and family circle by sharing the message individually.

The founder adopted the approach of “be shameless and ask” and believes that others should follow that approach too. Initially, they were very uncomfortable asking for funds and were worried about how it would be perceived. But after getting to a realization that the funds were only for the betterment of society, and hence there was no reason to feel guilty - that helped everyone overcome their discomfort and approach fundraising with confidence. They raised a total of more than 2 lakhs in their very first campaign in November and got more than 120 unique supporters to donate to their campaign.
