ELMS Sports Foundation builds retail capacities to promote development in sports

ELMS Sports Foundation (ELMS) ensures the right to play and learn for children who come from the remotest locations in India and deserve holistic education. Through their work, they aim to leverage the power of play to develop Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and physical skills among children that shall lead to improvement in learning outcomes (non-cognitive competencies), encourage girl child participation in school, improve attendance for all the children and ensure retention.

While raising funds for their program and for basic sports equipment, our partner involved the senior members of the organisation in reaching out to their individual network. In these reach outs, they ensured to communicate how sports enable young minds to make better life choices and that they seek collaborative effort from all towards their mission rather than just monetary contributions. Similar support was garnered from colleagues who belonged to sports administration and armed forces backgrounds, and from sports federations.

While social media may have only helped them in broadcasting their message to a limited audience, versus their email marketing efforts which were more fruitful in nature, the NGO does plan to expand its reach by the virtue of few influencers associated with the organisation.

From the start, ELMS was aware about the lack of much precedent for a strong fundraising campaign in this domain. However, they did not allow it to become a roadblock and have conveyed that their first endeavor has been very encouraging. They have learned along the way and have also realised the importance of maintaining good relationships with donors by keeping them engaged with the mission, rather than just springing donation requests with them.
