MiracleFeet India is helping Anjani and her daughter Ansi overcome the pain and stigma of Clubfoot

In India, every year 33,000 children are born with clubfoot, and only around 13% have access to treatment. Our partner MiracleFeet India aims to reach at least 70% of all children born with the condition within the next five years.

One such story is that of Anjani, from a village near Basti in Uttar Pradesh, who has lived with untreated clubfoot her entire life. When her daughter Ansi was born with the same condition, she was determined that her child would not suffer the unbearable pain and social stigma that she had faced all her life.

She found free treatment at a weekly clinic set up by MiracleFeet India in Basti District Hospital. When clinics began to close as a result of the pandemic, she was afraid that a break in the treatment would cause irreversible damage.

However, regular telephonic counselling and guidance helped until treatment could resume. At a recent clinic visit, Anjani was thrilled to see her daughter’s progress, “Ansi will not be disabled like me. Her story will be different!”

MiracleFeet India currently operates a clubfoot program in 8 states across 75 districts via 87 clinics. They have also developed web and mobile applications that include all aspects of the program to monitor their patients. “GiveIndia’s supportive team did quite a bit of groundwork in helping us create our first campaign, and designing the content and communications kits. This also helped us understand how to leverage fundraisers to reach a large number of people in a limited amount of time.” says the Development Manager at MiracleFeet India.
