The power of volunteer engagement

Vivekananda Youth Forum is a long-standing NGO partner for GiveIndia that dedicatedly crowdfunds on the platform both during and outside of events. In GiveIndia Fundraising Challenge 2022, the charity raised ₹10.24 lakhs through 103 supporters towards Sparsh, an early childhood education and mentoring programme for 200 children.

The charity that has participated actively in all of GiveIndia’s fundraising events since 2018 had a successful fundraising spree by following their time-tested strategy of volunteer outreach. VYF’s educational programmes are supported by volunteers with whom the NGO maintains ongoing engagement. It is their volunteer network that has helped them add consistently to their donorbase, with donors turning into volunteers over time and encouraging their friends and family to contribute. This year’s challenge was a happy milestone for VYF as one of their old supporters geared into action and fetched some big ticket donations which has resulted in a robust increase in their donor base.

Past and present volunteers were kept in the loop through regular updates via WhatsApp messages, which the NGO has found has been their best mode for communication with supporters. This was supplemented by WhatsApp status updates and posts across all major social media platforms. In the past, they have recognised the efforts of volunteers through certificates and appreciation letters. The NGO uses the GiveIndia’s Non-proft Dashboard to collate their donor data efficiently and involves everyone from the fundraising manager to trustees in the fundraising process. The fact that there is a growing number of children and youth in need of support is what drives them to keep going. The fundraising team at the NGO believes that one must not hesitate to ask, call or connect with potential donors at regular intervals as even the people who wish to donate need an additional push at times. We commend VYF for their steadfast efforts and congratulate them on their achievement.
